Mayor Bottoms will seek mayorial reelection

A city spokesperson confirmed on Friday that Atlanta's 60th mayor, Keisha Lance-Bottoms, will seek a second term when up for reelection in 2021.

After just completing her second year in office, Bottoms will be looking to build on her administration's accomplishments as she looks to woo voters into reelecting her for a second time.

Bottoms, who was recently named "Georgian of the Year" by Georgia Trend Magazine, says that she's most proud of the pay increases that she was able to give Atlanta's police officers as well as the closing of the Atlanta City Detention Center, where several ICE detainees were once held.

One major challenge that Bottoms will be looking to make strides on over the next two years is her commitment to increasing affordable housing options in the city. Her goal is to create and preserve 20,000 affordable units in the city by the year 2026. She's looking to raise $1 billion to accomplish this goal.
