Freaknik returns to Morris Brown for Homecoming Season

Story by: Russell Payne

In 2019, After 9 Partners brought Freaknik back from the dead with a family-friendly summer concert at Lakewood Amphitheater. This year, however, the nostalgia will take place over three days at Morris Brown College in the midst of homecoming season.

The three-day festival will return from its 2020 hiatus as an 18-and-up event, with acts that include Adina Howard, Lil Scrappy, Project Pat, Ray J, Pastor Troy, JT Money, Paul Wall, Dj Unk, 95 South, Field Mob and more.

According to the official Freaknik website, prices will be “cut in half” for the festival’s post-pandemic return in order to encourage greater attendance. After the festival’s dormancy since the 90’s, the 2019 return boasted over 15,000 attendees, despite nearly being rained-out.

You could never duplicate the vibes of the original Freaknik, but this year's festival, which takes place Oct. 8-10, may at least provide us with a taste. And for those who can't make the three-day event, the festival will reportedly be streamed live via omnisplayer.com.
